How does Smart Kids Institute work?

Smart Kids Institute goes beyond tutoring. Instead, children actively develop critical thinking skills while progressing independently through a carefully crafted, Smart Kids curriculum. The Smart Kids Math and Reading programs cover everything from counting to calculus, and phonemics to Shakespeare. The worksheets enable children to learn new concepts on their own. Smart Kids programs allow students to progress one small step at a time through daily practice. Smart Kids University helps children:

What do Smart Kids' virtual classes entail?

With many states still limiting business operations, Smart Kids North America has implemented a phased reopening for centers. Following their state’s reopening guidelines, centers will be offering a mix of virtual and in-center classes that will limit the number of students in our centers and promote proper social distancing precautions. The virtual classes are being held via videoconferencing where students complete the assigned work from the comfort of their home while a certified Instructor or assistant is available for assistance. Consultants are also available by phone or email. Since many of our centers are independently owned and operated, please check with your local center about their virtual learning protocol and availability. What is Smart Kids Institute doing to keep my kids safe while they are at the center?

As centers begin to reopen for in-center classes, Smart Kids North America has implemented strict safety guidelines which include:

Regularly cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces
Scheduling students to prevent overcrowding

Yes. If you’re concerned your child isn’t keeping up in class, Smart Kids encourages you to consider enrollment in the Smart Kids Institute Program as soon as possible. Smart Kids will start by having your child complete a placement test at no cost to you. The results of this test will help guide the Smart Kids Instructor to determine the best starting point. From there, the step-by-step method will help your child build a solid grasp of math and reading, and grow more confident and motivated while mastering each concept and lesson.

My child is already getting good grades, so why would I consider Smart Kids enrollment?

Smart Kids’ individualized instruction is meant to help your child advance and succeed. In fact, many Smart Kids Students are studying above grade level. Advanced students are introduced to new concepts earlier than at school and can experience the advantage of learning new material ahead of their peers.

Will my child get bored in school after advancing with Smart Kids?

Smart Kids parents and students report the opposite: students with a firm grasp of the fundamentals in math and reading become much more engaged and self-confident in school. Smart Kids is built to enhance what students learn in school, not replace it. Smart Kids’ unique curriculum begins at the preschool level and progresses through high school-level material. It is designed so that any student can move as quickly as possible through the materials, while building independence and self-learning skills.

If my child is a bit behind, how long will it take to catch up to grade level?

Smart Kids’ individualized instruction differs from one-on-one tutoring services that provide “quick fix” short term boosts in performance. If your child is a bit behind fellow classmates, our short-term goal is to reach grade-level competency within twelve months. While some students take a little longer, many accomplish it sooner. Smart Kids’ long-term goal is for students to continue with the Smart Kids University Program throughout the school years, for benefits beyond high school and into college.

Why isn’t my child progressing faster?

Every child learns at his or her own pace. The Smart Kids approach requires satisfactory understanding and testing competency before students can move forward. The largest class is a ratio of 1 teacher to 8 students.

How far in advance should I enroll to secure a spot?

We recommend enrolling as early as possible ideally 2 to 4 weeks before the session start date to secure your child’s spot. Because our classes are limited in size to ensure the highest quality and personalized attention, slots tend to fill up fast.

Can siblings enroll together or attend the same class?

Absolutely! Siblings are more than welcome to enroll together or join the same class. There are no restrictions, and many families find it’s a fun way for their children to learn side by side.

What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?

At Smart Kids University, we offer a flexible policy to support busy families. You may cancel your child’s monthly membership at any time, with the cancellation taking effect at the end of the current billing cycle. We do not provide refunds for partial months already attended. If your child misses a class, we offer one complimentary makeup session per month, based on availability, which must be scheduled within 30 days. Families may also request to switch class days or programs at any time, depending on seat availability, and we do our best to provide additional flexibility in cases of illness, emergency, or travel.

What does a first day at Smart Kids University look like?

The first day is introducing the student to their instructor, classmates and the program they will be using to learn.

How long is each class, and how often do students meet?

Each class is one hour long, giving students plenty of time to learn and explore.

Do students receive homework or projects to complete at home?

We are currently working on our own homework for students to take home that will remain engaging for the students.

Are classes mostly individual or group-based?

Most classes at Smart Kids University are individual, giving each child personalized attention and the space to learn at their own pace.

Do children need to bring their own laptop or materials?

For in person classes children do not need to bring their own laptop or materials. Computers are provided to each student to use.
